Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro defensive tackle Cam Heyward doesn't expect Mike Tomlin to return to coaching. He thinks his former head coach is just fine in his current role as an analyst on NBC's Football Night in America .
"Guys, he's not coming back," Heyward said during a Tuesday appearance on The Rich Eisen Show . "He's way too comfortable. He's way too comfortable. He told me as soon as we walked in, 'I win every week now.' And I'm like, 'I get that, I get that.' I'm not gonna fight against that because that's a pretty sweet job he's got going on over there."
Tomlin has received rave reviews in his first season as an analyst.
"He's getting more comfortable, but he's electric," Heyward said. "He brings good stories. He's accountable. He's not looking to bash anybody, but he's really telling that side of the game. And I know he studies, so I'm proud of him for doing that, and it's fun to watch."
Tomlin told Dan Patrick in September how different this fall feels.
"I am having the time of my life to be quite honest with you," Tomlin said on The Dan Patrick Show . "I've never had an August, man, since I was like 8 years old. I've always been on a football team and in a camp-like setting of some description."
During an appearance on The New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, Tomlin also described his new media role as "part-time work, full-time pay."
"Man, I'm having a ball. It's part-time work, full-time pay. You know what I mean?" Tomlin said.
At the very least, it sure seems like Tomlin will not return to coaching anytime soon.
