Cam Schlittler 's strong start with the New York Yankees has naturally drawn comparisons to Paul Skenes , but the rookie's early impact stands on its own merit too.
Through his first 25 big-league appearances, Schlittler has given up 35 earned runs while striking out 159 batters. That is not just a promising start. It is the kind of production that quickly gets noticed.

The Skenes comparison comes up because the Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander is the only pitcher cited as having topped both marks so quickly. But that should be just a footnote, not the headline.

Schlittler's case is not just built on where his name appears in the record books. It is what he is delivering for New York right now.
Across those first 25 appearances, he has logged 139 innings with a 2.27 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP . It is not just about the strikeouts. He is handling a significant workload while keeping runs off the board.

That distinction matters. Comparisons can create attention, but performance creates trust. Schlittler has already given New York enough evidence to view him as more than a viral statistic.
The Yankees should value the profile, not just the history
Schlittler's rise is not just about numbers. There is a clear baseball reason behind it. His fastball-heavy approach, paired with a developing cutter, gives him the tools to miss bats and limit damage.
He is built around power, and that is what has pushed him into the Yankees' plans so quickly. It is not just hype. There is substance behind it.
Skenes is still the bigger name, and there is nothing wrong with being linked to him. But Schlittler does not need to win the Paul Skenes comparison right now.

He just needs people to recognise that his start is worth taking seriously. On that front, he has already done enough.
