Montreal Canadiens forward Josh Anderson is in the middle of a contract year with the Original Six club.
The 32-year-old forward can test the market next summer as an unrestricted free agent if the Canadiens do not extend him by July 1. Yet, with the way that Anderson is playing this season, it is clear that Montreal should look to keep him around.
Anderson has been effective early on this campaign with Montreal. In 15 games so far this season, the power forward has recorded seven goals, three assists, 10 points, 31 hits, and a plus-7 rating. These are strong numbers and show that he is making an impact.
Yet, what's more encouraging is that Anderson is staying hot as the season rolls on. In his last two games, Anderson has recorded four points. This included him scoring two goals and recording an assist in the Canadiens' Oct. 31 matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
While the Canadiens are being patient with a potential Anderson extension, the 6-foot-3 winger is undoubtedly making a big case to stick around right now. This is only more the case when noting that he is also a key veteran leader in their room.
