The Montreal Canadiens drew first blood in their NHL Stanley Cup Playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning .
The Habs got the job done in Game 1 Sunday night, as they took down Tampa Bay to the tune of a 4-3 score via overtime at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa.
The Canadiens leaned on a huge performance by forward Juraj Slafkovsky to steal Game 1 in enemy territory.
Slafkovsky found the back of the net not just once, not twice, but three times, and he scored all of them on the power play.
The 22-year-old Slafkovsky buried the biggest goal of the night in overtime, and in the process made history, as he became just the first player in Montreal franchise history to have three goals on the man advantage in a playoff game, according to Sportsnet Stats.
Lane Hutson and Nick Suzuki were credited with assists for Slafkovsky's game-winning goal that came just over a minute into overtime.
The Canadiens struck first in the game with a goal from Josh Anderson in the opening period before the Lightning responded with quick back-to-back goals in the second period. Slafkovsky evened the score at 2-2 with his first power-play goal less than a minute before the second intermission. Slafkovsky lit the lamp again with another power-play goal in the third period before Brandon Hagel tied the score at 3-3.
Montreal went 3-for-5 on the man advantage in Game 1. That was as many opportunities Tampa Bay had on the power play, but the Bolts converted on only two of those.
Game 2 of the series will be on Tuesday at the same venue.
