Brothers Cole and Lane Hutson are set to face off the first time as NHL players, with the Washington rookie welcoming his accomplished older brother to the nation's capital.
Lane, still young himself at just 22, went from a late second-round pick in 2022 to the Calder Trophy winner in 2024-25 with 66 points. He followed it up with 78 points last season and already has six in six games for the Canadiens this season.
Cole, meanwhile, is just starting to scratch the surface in his NHL career.
Here's what you need to know about the Hutson brothers facing off for the first time.
Cole Hutson faces off with brother Lane Hutson
Ahead of his first NHL matchup with his brother, Lane Hutson told NHL.com's Tom Gulitti that, while it will be "just another game," he is excited for the family first.

"It will be cool, for sure, but it's just going to be another game," Lane said. "We've got to find a way to get some wins. Yeah, it will be cool for me and my brother. But I'm excited for it.
Cole, meanwhile, told Gulitti he hopes the many battles with his brother over the years pay off.
"I've been battling him my whole life, so I kind of know what he's going to do," Cole said. "And, hopefully, we come out with the win."
The Hutson brothers both played for Boston University, but they narrowly missed each other; Lane played for the Terriers in 2022-23 and 2023-24, while Cole played in 2024-25 and 2025-26. The two also narrowly missed each other while playing for the U.S. National Developmental Team.

Both Hutson brothers were second-round picks, but it didn't take too long for either to break through in the NHL. Lane is already a highly-valuable defenseman in Montreal, and the early returns for Cole are strong. The rookie defenseman posted 10 points in his first 14 NHL games last season, and he has a goal and two assists early this season.
Perhaps one day they can play alongside each other in the NHL, but the Canadiens and Capitals are both thrilled with the Hutson they have right now; Lane signed an eight-year, $70.8 million extension with Montreal in 2025.
