Over his first three years at the major league level, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker didn't live up to his top prospect status. However, the 2026 season has presented a completely different story .
Walker hit is fourth home run in five days as the Cardinals took down the Washington Nationals 6-1. The outfielder is feeling confident and ready to prove his torrid pace isn't a fluke, via Cardinals.TV's Dani Wexelman, h/t Josh Jacobs of MLB.com.
"Man, I always feel like I can do it," Walker said. "But just working with the guys and being with the guys all day, especially working with [assistant hitting coach] Casey [Chenoweth] in there, it's just going through the roof right now, and I've got to get it to stay there."
Through his first 12 games in 2026, Walker is hitting .295 with an MLB-leading five home runs and 12 RBIs. Serving as the Cardinals' cleanup hitter, he has been a crucial source of run production early on. While St. Louis is in a rebuild, Walker's performance is pivotal as he tries to prove to the new front office he can be a long-term piece.
During the 2025 season, he hit just .215 with six home runs, 41 RBIs and 10 stolen bases over 111 games. A year prior, Walker hit .201 with five home runs, 20 RBIs and a stolen bases. There was some flashes of brilliance during his rookie year, .276 batting average with 16 home runs, 51 RBIs and seven stolen bases. But his recent work had the MLB world souring on Walker.
Their opinions have now changed early on in 2026. The outfielder must prove he can be a consistent force throughout the entire season. But if he does, Walker will have a place in St. Louis for the foreseeable future.
