Gorman's season-long potential is why the Cardinals still see value in his bat, but his recent slide has sharpened the concern. He is currently hitting .207 with 38 hits, six home runs, 25 RBI, and 17 runs scored in 56 games this season, while batting .067 with two hits over his last 10 games.
For a team trying to stay connected in the National League Central race, that type of stretch creates pressure. The Cardinals entered Tuesday at 31-27, 5.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers and trying to stay competitive in the top half of the division.
KMOV's Tamar Sher shared the comments from the manager Tuesday on X, formerly Twitter, after Marmol discussed the 26-year-old's recent struggles and the work taking place behind the scenes.
"It's not a lack of effort or overall determination behind what he's doing."
Marmol's message balanced public support with internal accountability. He made clear that Gorman's slump does not come from poor preparation, even as the Cardinals continue working with him on adjustments that could translate into better at-bats.

The timing matters because St. Louis remains in a close battle with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs near second place. Every lineup spot carries more weight as the club tries to close ground in the division and avoid letting a strong start to the season slip.
The Cardinals already had an early response Tuesday, taking a 1-0 lead over the Rangers into the bottom of the third inning.
For Gorman , the next step is turning those behind-the-scenes conversations into sharper plate appearances. For St. Louis, Marmol's response showed patience , but the standings leave little room for an extended offensive hole.
