For weeks, the St. Louis Cardinals have stated that Ramon Urias is still recovering from right/left elbow lateral epicondylitis, an injury that has kept him out for all but 25 games this season. Now, St. Louis has released another update about their infielder , according to MLB.com.
"Club wants to see Urias go through nine-inning rehab games on back-to-back days before re-evaluating his readiness to return to the big league roster," MLB.com reported.
Urias has not had a good season, batting .158 with just two home runs, five RBIs, and nine runs across 25 games. Ultimately, this is a downturn from last season, when he hit .248 with eight home runs, 34 RBIs, and 27 runs. This was not what the Cardinals envisioned when they signed Urias to a two-year deal .

Urias has never been a big bat, with his best performance coming in 2021, when he hit .279 with seven home runs, 38 RBIs, and 33 runs in 85 games. But the team values his defense. Ultimately, that could prove valuable down the stretch, especially for a team with playoff aspirations. The Cards hope to get that back when he returns.
The Cardinals have also benefitted from good luck , as they continue to fight for a playoff spot. So far, they are 66-63, and 2 1/2 games behind the San Diego Padres for the final wild card spot in the NL. With 33 games left in the season, the Cards need to garner as many wins as possible to get into a wild card spot. When Urias is ready to return, he could likely return to the lineup, just in time for the stretch run.
