Carlos Boozer was living every proud father's dream in Las Vegas. The two-time NBA All-Star was on hand to watch his son, Memphis Grizzlies rookie Cam Boozer , help the Grizzlies escape with a 97-96 win over the Chicago Bulls in Summer League action, and he shared the advice he gave his son before making his professional debut.
"My advice to him is just be where your feet are. Enjoy every moment," Boozer said in a mid-game interview . "It goes by so quickly. I still remember my first time in Summer League, and now I'm watching my son do it."
The elder Boozer, who now works in the Utah Jazz's front office , did not hide his emotions watching his son live out a lifelong dream.
"Just every emotion, all over the place. Super excited, get the chills," Boozer said. "Like he's wanted this his entire life. He's finally here. So just happy for him."
Cam Boozer delivered in a tight one . The No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft finished with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting in 27 minutes, adding six rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block, as Memphis narrowly held off Chicago's Caleb Wilson, who exploded for a game-high 35 points. The win came a week after Boozer's official Summer League debut in Salt Lake City , where he posted 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists in a rout of Oklahoma City .
His father did not hesitate when asked what makes his son's game special. "His skill set's amazing. He's so versatile. Can shoot it, can play outside, can play inside, can be a hub, like a point forward out there," Boozer said. "He's a terrific passer. It's mind, he out-thinks everybody. That's his biggest IQ."
As for how hands-on he plans to be during his son's rookie transition, Boozer made clear some lessons simply have to be learned in real time.
"Some of it, he just got to be in the fire, going through it himself," Boozer said. "He's such a student of the game. He'll study over and over and over again. He's the kid that's going to figure it out on his own, but he'll be there."
For a Grizzlies franchise moving on from Ja Morant and building around a new young core, the early returns on their prized rookie, and the proud father watching from the stands, have been nothing but encouraging.
