Carolina Panthers Safety Earns Honorable Mention by ESPN

The Carolina Panthers are hoping to improve on their 2025 season where they won the NFC South. Despite losing to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC wild card round, the Panthers now have a foundation.
Through free agency and the NFL Draft, the hope is that Dan Morgan's team got better.

As we sit here just a week away from training camp, more NFL rankings for the upcoming season are being released. The latest comes from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler who is releasing rankings for each position. On Thursday, Fowler released the rankings for the safety position .
While no Panthers player made the top 10, there was one who did crack the honorable mention list. Tre'Von Moehrig was named an honorable mention by Fowler, being just outside of the top 10.
Here is what Fowler wrote on Moehrig, citing a defensive backs coach in the league:
"One of the most versatile players in the league. He can play safety, dime or nickel. Really good rusher. He can blitz, take on blocks like an OLB and an LB and can also be productive in the deep part of the field."

Moehrig was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of TCU. He spent a few seasons with the Raiders before signing a three-year deal worth $51 million in 2025 with the Panthers.
The play style of Moehrig is physical, bringing some toughness to this Panthers' secondary. He's also versatile, allowing the Panthers to move him around the secondary if needed at times. With that versatility, it opens things up for the defense in terms of formations.
Coming off a solid season in 2025, his first with the Panthers, the hope is that he can take a step forward here in 2026. Carolina's secondary has the chance to be really good and could be a key factor in their hopes to make the playoffs again next season.
If he takes a step forward in that development, he should find himself ranked even higher on this list for the 2027 season. And that would mean good things overall.
