The Cleveland Cavaliers needed to shake off the Game 6 disappointment against the Detroit Pistons fast . Donovan Mitchell answered that in an aggressive way to close out Game 7 of this NBA Playoffs series.
Mitchell hit 26 points in 31 minutes, including becoming two assists shy of the double-double in the 125-94 rout of Detroit. He ended with eight assists and pulled down seven rebounds.
"Spida" started to feel the rout coming on on this step back 3-pointer that sent Pistons fans to the exits.
Mitchell even became a part of a humorous moment: Running into fiancée and famed R&B singer Coco Jones during the second half.
Mitchell hits the career first though: He'll make his conference finals debut after seven seasons.
He wasn't the only Cavs star to surpass 20 points against the top seed out east. Center Jarrett Allen raised his game another level in dropping 23 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Allen continued his impressive Game 7 performances this season , as he recently torched the Toronto Raptors with 22 points and 19 rebounds.
Forward Evan Mobley delivered 21 points for the Cavs and produced the double-double by getting 12 rebounds.
Cleveland and Mitchell hit other notable marks in the romp. One involved hitting 28 baskets from the free throw line.
But Sam Merrill rose as the breakout performer in this elimination game. He poured a stunning 23 points through 25 minutes on the floor including nailing five 3-pointers.
Now the Cavs set up a massive Eastern Conference Finals showdown with the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. New York will be well rested after sweeping the Philadelphia 76ers and will host Mitchell and company inside the Madison Square Garden.
