No. 10 Oklahoma will look to build on last season's College Football Playoff appearance beginning with its 2026 opener Friday night against UTEP.
The Sooners went 10-3 a year ago, falling to Alabama in a first-round playoff rematch with the opposite result of OU's thrilling regular-season win in Tuscaloosa a month earlier. The Miners are coming off a 2-10 campaign.
John Mateer is back to lead OU's offense after throwing for 2,885 yards and rushing for 431 more a year ago. While his production was down across the board from the numbers he posted for Washington State in 2024, Mateer has a firm grasp on what the Sooners want to do and should be primed for a strong senior season.
The Miners have given the reins to EJ Colson, who threw for 2,142 yards and 16 TDs for Incarnate Word last season.
