The Oklahoma Sooners ' chase for their eighth national championship in school history gets underway on Friday night when they take on the UTEP Miners . The Sooners are one of the winningest teams in college football and have the most conference championships all time.
Oklahoma is coming off a 10-3 season and a College Football Playoff appearance. It returns one of the better quarterbacks in college football, John Mateer, and a defense that will be among the nation's best. The Sooners are hoping to build on their success last year by getting their ground game going to supplement Mateer and their stout defense.

OU's first opportunity to put all of the offseason work on display comes when they welcome UTEP to town.
The Miners come in with a talented quarterback, E.J. Colson, but have a number of new pieces throughout their starting 22.
