The Faizon Brandon Era at Tennessee has arrived.
The true freshman quarterback will take the reins for the Vols' season opener against Furman at Neyland Stadium, marking the fifth consecutive year Tennessee has had a new starter at QB.
Brandon, a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, had a 35-1 record as a starter at Grimsley High School, leading the Whirlies to consecutive state championships before enrolling at Tennessee in January. Now he'll be the lone true freshman to start at QB in Week 1 for a Power Four team.
While Brandon's debut is the prime reason to tune in Saturday, Furman's QB will also be familiar to college football fans. Jake Garcia made his first start for the Paladins in their season-opening win over D2 Anderson last week. The grad student previously suited up for Michigan, East Carolina, Miami and Missouri, getting most of his playing time with ECU in 2024.
He won't be intimidated by Neyland Stadium, but it'll be an uphill climb for the Paladins on Saturday.
