Character and consistency: Chivas' finish in the 2026 Leagues Cup
Chivas wrapped up its Leagues Cup campaign with a win that leaves behind much more than just a positive result. Guadalajara beat the Seattle Sounders 1-2 in a match in which it once again showed a solid, proactive, and consistent version of itself, while also confirming that the collective work continues to find better answers.
El Rebaño was able to overcome a deficit, stay calm, and keep pushing until it found the comeback. The reward came after a match in which the red-and-whites controlled the ball and consistently created danger.

The numbers clearly reflect that trend. Chivas finished with 74 percent possession, completed 728 passes, and took 25 total shots, more than double its opponent's 10. In addition, Guadalajara earned 13 corner kicks and created two big scoring chances.
That attacking persistence also forced an outstanding performance from the Sounders goalkeeper. Frei made 9 saves, becoming one of the main reasons the gap on the scoreboard was not bigger.
xG (expected goals) also slightly favored Guadalajara, with 1.9 expected goals to Seattle's 1.63, showing that the team not only had the ball, but also knew how to use it to consistently get close to the opposing goal.

One of the best takeaways from the match is the team's ability to respond. Chivas took the hit of falling behind, but never lost its way. The team stuck to its approach, attacked patiently, found spaces, and kept piling up chances until it turned the score around.
That consistency ended up being decisive. Guadalajara never stopped pushing for the game and found in that persistence a reward that also speaks to the confidence the group has been building.
Beyond the result, the collective performance leaves positive signs: a team that wants to have the ball, that looks to move forward with it, that creates chances, and that has the tools to change the course of a match when circumstances demand it.

The match also marked the return to first-team action of players who had recently represented Mexico at the Under-20 World Cup qualifying tournament.
Hugo Camberosfeatured again for Chivas and left a very positive impression. After his standout performance with Mexico's U-20 national team, he came on as a substitute on the left wing and brought intelligence, depth, and creativity, showing that he returned in very good form.
Another return that had an immediate impact was that of SantiagoSandoval. The attacker had barely come on when he found a chance in the box and responded right away: he touched his first ball and sent it into the back of the net to score the second red-and-white goal. His appearance ended up being decisive and represents another piece of good news from the night for Guadalajara.

The victory also highlighted individual performances that strengthen the group. Luis Reygot on the scoresheet with an important goal for the red-and-white comeback, positive news within his own momentum and the squad's internal competition.
Romodelivered an extraordinary display. Starting as the left center-back, he showed the ability to read different moments of the match and also become an important piece in midfield. His awareness in gaining ground and giving the team more height up the pitch was decisive.
In fact, he was the one who produced one of the most important plays of the night, delivering an extraordinary pass to set up the winning goal after driving forward and finding the exact moment to break through the opposing back line.
There was also good news with Brian Gutiérrez, who was actively involved and showed the tools to combine with teammates and keep the play flowing, while Miguel Gómezturned in a very composed performance on the right flank, especially in his decision-making and his work on the ball.
