The Chicago Bears released cornerback Zah Frazier on Thursday, one year after selecting him with a fifth-round pick in the draft. Frazier never appeared in a game for the Bears after missing all of last season because of a personal reason.
The Bears drafted Frazier with the 169th pick out of Texas-San Antonio. A tall, rangy cornerback, the Bears hoped he could add competition in the secondary. Instead, when training camp began last summer Frazier was not on the practice field. The team wound up placing him on the non-football injury list in late August.
Asked about Frazier after the season in January, general manager Ryan Poles indicated that he expected Frazier to be with the team in 2026.
"Yeah, so I had a good conversation with him," Poles said Jan. 21. "He's back. He'll be back, you know, going into this offseason like everybody else. He feels like he is in a really good place to develop and move forward. Definitely a setback. He's got a mountain to climb just for missing so much ball. He needed to play. So that will be up to him to be able to get himself in the right position to compete for a roster spot."
The Bears drafted Texas cornerback Malik Muhammad in the fourth round of this year's draft . Muhammad joins a cornerback depth chart that includes Jaylon Johnson , Kyler Gordon , Tyrique Stevenson , Jaylon Jones , Josh Blackwell and Terell Smith , who is coming off major knee injury last year.
