The Kansas City Chiefs are in the middle of taking on the Denver Broncos on Sunday for their Week 8 AFC West matchup. It's a contest that could determine an early leader of the division at the midway point of the regular season. With the team in a crucial matchup, head coach Andy Reid made some last-minute changes to the roster right before kickoff.
Reports indicate that Reid opted to start Mike Caliendo over Kingsley Suamataia on the offensive line, according to Nate Taylor of ESPN. For now, the reason why is unknown, but Taylor claims he will ask the Chiefs' 68-year-old head coach about it during the postgame press conference.
"The Chiefs say Mike Caliendo will start instead of Kingsley Suamataia, per coach Andy Reid's decision. We'll ask after the game to see why the change was made for this game."

Suamataia has started in five of the Chiefs' seven games this season, while Sunday's contest is Caliendo's second start of the campaign. However, Caliendo has appeared in every game for the Chiefs so far this season.
This is Kingsley Suamataia's third year in the league. He initially joined Kansas City as a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. After serving as a backup in his rookie season, the Utah Native started every game for the club in the 2025-26 campaign. While he did not start on Sunday against the Broncos, he does not appear to be dealing with an injury.
As for Mike Caliendo, he's been a backup for the Chiefs throughout his entire four-year career. He's had spot starts during his time in Kansas City. Week 8 against Denver is just his ninth career start.
