Chiefs Announce Patrick Mahomes Injury Update Before Chargers Game

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are facing their most important game of the season on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers . The Chiefs are coming off back-to-back losses, which significantly impacted their playoff hopes. Simply put, the Chiefs must win on Sunday to give themselves a chance of securing a postseason berth.

Mahomes had a forgettable outing in their 20-10 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 14. The two-time NFL MVP completed 14-of-33 passes for 160 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions. Mahomes was able to register 59 rushing yards on seven carries, but it was far from enough to lead Kansas City to victory.

Mahomes is now eager to make things right in Sunday’s big game. The two-time All-Pro quarterback, however, is dealing with an injury heading into the matchup.

The Chiefs fell to 6-7 after Sunday’s loss to the Texans. They are currently third in the AFC West behind the 9-4 Chargers and the 11-2 Denver Broncos . Kansas City is 10th in the conference and will need to win all four of its remaining games to keep its postseason hopes alive. On top of that, the Chiefs will need a number of favorable results in the conference in order for them to have a chance at a Wild Card spot.

On Wednesday, the Chiefs submitted their first injury report for Sunday’s crucial showdown against the Chargers. The team announced that Mahomes is dealing with a knee injury, but the good news is that he was listed as a full participant in Wednesday’s practice.

It is worth noting that Mahomes was also on the injury report heading into last weekend’s game against the Texans. He was able to practice in full throughout the week, but he was seen limping at one point in the contest.

It appears that the Chiefs’ decision to include Mahomes on the injury report is merely precautionary. He played through the knee issue against the Texans, and he is fully expected to do the same on Sunday against L.A.

It’s the Chiefs who play hosts for the Week 15 matchup. Kickoff from Arrowhead Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
