The secondary of the Kansas City Chiefs underwent multiple changes due to injuries, and despite the issues, there were some positives in the depth chart. An undrafted rookie free agent saw more time on the field in 2025, catching the attention of the coaching staff.
Kevin Knowles saw more action than expected in 2025 as he appeared in 13 games after initially beginning the season on the practice squad. He made a standout play on special teams during the Chiefs' Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys . The 22-year-old rookie, notably in coverage, helped to pin Dallas at the three-yard line deep in their own territory.
"He's (Knowles) been a great surprise," said defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo before the Chiefs' Week 17 game, "He's filled in there at nickel for us, which we didn't really expect, and I think he's done a solid job."
The former Florida State standout began the year low on Kansas City 's depth chart and playing primarily on special teams, but emerged later in the season, tallying two pass deflections and 15 combined tackles across 13 appearances.
