Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed Harrison Butker's Week 9 status Wednesday as questions continued about the team's kicking situation.

Butker pushed a 54-yard field-goal attempt wide right with 2:36 remaining in Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Denver Broncos, who scored the winning touchdown two plays later. The miss came four days after the Chiefs signed Justin Tucker to their practice squad, and Kansas City suffered its second straight defeat after a 5-0 start.
ESPN's Nate Taylor shared Reid's assessment of the Chiefs' kicking situation Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter, as Kansas City prepares to host the Jets.

"'Harrison [Butker] will be in,' Reid said, too," Taylor wrote.

Butker will retain the kicking duties after converting 12 of 18 field-goal attempts through the Chiefs' first seven games. His 66.7% success rate falls below his 87.1% career mark, while his six misses lead the NFL this season.
Reid's decision gives Butker another opportunity against New York, with Tucker available on the practice squad. The update establishes Kansas City's plan for Sunday without offering a commitment about the kicking assignment beyond Week 9.
The timing of Sunday's miss added to the scrutiny. A successful kick would have extended Kansas City's 24-21 lead to 27-21, a six-point advantage. Denver still could have taken the lead with a touchdown and extra point, but Butker's miss left the Broncos needing only a field goal to tie.
Butker made just one of three field-goal attempts in the Chiefs' Week 7 outing, a 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The Chiefs now sit at 5-2, trailing the 6-2 Broncos in the AFC West.

Despite Tucker's presence on the practice squad, Reid confirmed Butker will handle the kicking duties in Week 9.
