The Kansas City Chiefs ’ 2026-27 season could turn out similar to their 2025-26 campaign if they don’t take advantage of the fascinating wide receiver trade or free agent market.
As good as Patrick Mahomes is, he can only do so much when his receivers fail to regularly create separation and allow pinpoint passes to slip through their hands. In an effort to give Mahomes more weapons on the outside, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes Kansas City could acquire a Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro WR.
It won’t be easy, though, as Knox also listed the New England Patriots as a potential suitor for the 28-year-old star.
“Look, there's certainly no guarantee that the Eagles will trade wideout A.J. Brown ,” Knox wrote Wednesday. “However, things appear headed in that direction. The receiver publicly voiced his frustrations with the team in 2025, and the Eagles have engaged in trade discussions involving him.”
“According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, a trade with the Patriots is ‘on the table’ and is 'tracking to happen' on or after June 1. Of course, there's time for another receiver-needy team to get involved since the Eagles aren't going to move Brown before then.”
“Dealing Brown before June 1 would cost Philadelphia $20.1 million in additional cap space. Trading him after that date would save $7 million. Potential suitors: Chiefs, Patriots.”
It isn’t asinine to suggest that the Chiefs trail the Patriots in the Brown sweepstakes this offseason. Most, if not all, reports regarding Brown have indicated that Brown will land with New England if the Eagles agree to part ways with him in the summer.
Still, that doesn’t mean Kansas City is out of the running. At the end of the day, the franchise with the most enticing trade offer for the Eagles’ 6-foot-1 Super Bowl champion positioned itself best to secure his services.
If the Chiefs prove they’re willing to meet the Eagles’ trade demands without any complications, they could surprise the NFL world by starting the 2026-27 season as Kansas City’s No. 1 receiver.
