Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes' trade value still ludicrous despite torn ACL appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Kansas City Chiefs are less than two months away from getting their 2026 NFL season underway. The Chiefs are looking to bounce back from the struggles of last year, when they failed to make the playoffs for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era.
The Chiefs reiterated their commitment to Mahomes by signing him to a massive extension this offseason as he recovers from an ACL injury suffered toward the end of the 2025 campaign, and recently, ESPN broke down what the star's hypothetical trade value would be on the market today: seven first-round draft picks.
"Would a torn ACL stop anyone from trading the farm to land Mahomes?… Mahomes turns 31 in November, so there would be some hesitation about committing too many future picks given his age and the knee injury. But that could still mean a decade of high-level quarterback play from arguably the best player of his generation," wrote Bill Barnwell of ESPN.

Mahomes is expected to be ready by the time the 2026 season rolls around in September, having suffered the ACL injury in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers toward the end of last season. The star had been putting together an elite statistical season up to that point, but unfortunately, Kansas City 's lack of a running game, combined with the steps they took backward on defense, kept them out of the playoff race in the AFC.
Still, Mahomes remains one of the, if not the best player in the game today, and it's highly likely that other teams would be willing to part ways with historical amounts of assets in order to bring him in.
Thankfully for Chiefs fans, he doesn't figure to be on the trade market anytime soon.
