KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Could another addition be on the horizon for the Kansas City Chiefs?
The team restructured right guard Trey Smith's salary cap on Thursday, giving the Chiefs an extra $12.5 million in cap space.

They converted $18.5 million of Smith's salary into a bonus. The move now gives the Chiefs a total of $13.8 million in cap space for this season, according to Over the Cap. His cap hit this season will now be $12.1 million.
But, in 2027 and 2028, his cap hit will be north of $34.1 million.
In 2025, the Chiefs signed Smith to a four-year, $94 million contract last season, with $70 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid guard in the NFL at the time.
This is his second time restructuring his contract, doing so in 2025 by converting $981,000 of his salary into a signing bonus.

Smith has proven to be one of the best right guards in the NFL, earning two Pro Bowl selections and winning two Super Bowls while protecting Patrick Mahomes.
