Haason Reddick is still a free agent, and the Kansas City Chiefs' pass rush could use him. The 5-0 Chiefs have eight sacks through five games, and Bleacher Report's Alex Kay paired Kansas City with Reddick as the veteran who could push the defense over the top.
Kansas City has been one of the NFL's best teams anyway, rolling past the Los Angeles Chargers 22-6 on Sunday and dominating PFF's Team of the Week . But the sack numbers tell a different story about the edge rushers.
Where the Chiefs' sacks have come from
All eight of Kansas City's sacks came in two games, four against the Denver Broncos in Week 1 and four against the Chargers on Sunday. In between, the Chiefs went three straight games without a sack against the Colts, Dolphins and Raiders.
Sunday was encouraging. George Karlaftis led the team with eight pressures, according to PFF, and the defense finished with 24 pressures. But the Chargers were starting four rookies on the offensive line, and before Week 6, Kansas City ranked 27th in pass-rush win rate, according to ESPN . Chris Jones also faces possible NFL punishment , which could thin the interior. Against the playoff-caliber offenses Kansas City will see in January, the Chiefs can't count on facing four rookie linemen again.
Can Haason Reddick still help?
Reddick had 50.5 sacks from 2020 to 2023 while playing for three teams, a stretch that made him a two-time Pro Bowler. The last two seasons were much quieter, with just 3.5 sacks since the start of 2024, and he turned 32 last month. That decline is the reason he's still available in late October, and it's also why the price should be low for a team with Super Bowl expectations.
Kansas City wouldn't need him to be that player again. A rotational role in Steve Spagnuolo's defense, spelling Karlaftis and Felix Anudike-Uzomah on passing downs, would fit both sides. For a team that already looks like it's at the top of the power rankings , a low-cost veteran pass rusher is exactly the kind of move that matters in January.
