The Kansas City Chiefs were defeated again in preseason play by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Saturday. The game may have ended disappointingly, but it was fruitful for the development of second-year wide receiver Jalen Royals .
"I felt good, just getting confident out there, really (for) the most part." Royals said via The Kansas City Star , "Real confident in my alignment and assignment on the defense, stuff like that, film study. I'm definitely feeling good when I go out there."
Royals led the team in receiving with 6 catches for 51 yards in Saturday's loss to the Buccaneers. Head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters after the game, praising the second-year receiver's performance.
"It was great to see Royals step up and have a couple nice catches and then the yards after the catch," Reid said. "He did a nice job there."
The former Utah State star had his first NFL reception during the Week 18 loss last season to the Las Vegas Raiders . He finished the game with two catches for four yards on three targets. The 2026 season is an opportunity to make waves and improve his place on the depth chart going into the last preseason game.
