The conversation surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs has shifted in recent weeks to the strength of their wide receiver room. There were various issues last season that slowed the unit's progress, and the outlook for 2026 is promising with the expected availability of Rashee Rice .
Rice has appeared in 12 games over the past two seasons, with his 2025 campaign severely affected by injury and missing six contests due to suspension. The games he did play were effective, finishing the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 10.8 yards per reception.
"He's (Rashee Rice) a tough dude," Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters before Week 15 last season. "A young guy with a lot on his plate and he's powering through it to the best of his ability right now, and that's how he's going about his business. He comes to work and works. And it's unfortunate that he's had a couple of these drops. It's not for a lack of effort or focus that way, but to say he doesn't have a lot of things going, he has a lot of things going."
According to a recent update from the league offices, Rice, barring injury, should be on pace to begin the season on time. He was placed on season-ending injured reserve due to lingering concussion symptoms before Week 17 of last year.
The Chiefs' search for a true top wide receiver target for Patrick Mahomes could already be on the roster with Rice if he's able to pick up from his rookie season.
