Entering the 2026 season, the Kansas City Chiefs are expecting wide receiver Xavier Worthy to be a key part of their passing attack. Normally, they'd feel the same about fellow pass catcher Rashee Rice .
However, Rice will now undergo a 30-day jail sentence after violating his probation . He will be away from the Chiefs for most of their offseason program, but the Chiefs expect him back for training camp , via Nate Taylor of ESPN. At every step along the way, Worthy will be there for his teammate , via PJ Green of the Kansas City Star.
"That's my guy," Worthy said. "I've been talking to him every day, so I'm just praying for him."
Alongside his jail sentence, Rice is also recovering from right knee surgery. When he does eventually return to the Chiefs, he'll need quite the ramp up to get ready for the regular season. At least in the beginning of the status, his ability to truly change the offense will be questioned.
In the meantime, Worthy will be expected to take another step forward. Over his two years with the Chiefs, the wide receiver has caught 101 passes for 1,170 yards and seven touchdowns. His numbers did drop in 2025, making 42 grabs for 532 yards and a touchdown. So even if Rice was available, Kansas City would be expecting more.
The Chiefs will be looking to reclaim their spot atop the NFL after a down 2025. They'll hope to eventually have Rice be a part of their offense. Worthy will continue serving as a crucial target for Patrick Mahomes and mental resource for Rice.
