Clemson running back calls position group ‘the best in the country" ‘

After Clemson football’s Spring Game, running back Gideon Davidson didn’t hold back when discussing Clemson’s backfield, confidently stating, “Our running backs are the best in the country.” It’s the kind of comment that grabs attention, especially in the spring, but it also gives insight into the confidence building within that room.

Clemson enters the upcoming season with plenty of expectations at the skill positions. The receiving corps is loaded with talent and depth, which should help open things up offensively. With defenses forced to respect the passing game, the running backs could benefit from lighter boxes and more opportunities to make plays.

While labeling the group as the best in the country might be a bit of a stretch right now, there’s no denying the potential. The unit features a solid blend of returning experience and young players who are continuing to develop. There’s also versatility, with backs capable of contributing as runners and receivers.

If everything comes together, especially up front along the offensive line, this group has a chance to be a consistent and reliable part of the offense. At the very least, it looks like a position Clemson can lean on throughout the season as it looks to take a step forward.
