Back in 2023, it appeared that the Clemson Tigers were about to churn out another terrific wide receiver, as Tyler Brown hauled in 52 receptions for 531 yards and four touchdowns during his freshman campaign.
But then, things unraveled.
Brown missed most of his sophomore campaign due to injury, managing just five catches in six games. He then largely fell out of the offense entirely in 2025 , finishing with 22 grabs for 191 yards.
Heading into 2026, Brown seemed like an afterthought. Especially in a Clemson receiving corps that included stars T.J. Moore and Bryant Wesco as well as a host of talented freshmen, most specifically Naeem Burroughs and Gordon Sellars.
But five weeks into the season, Brown has re-emerged as a central figure in the Tigers' passing atack.
Brown has nearly equaled his 2025 totals already, having managed 21 receptions for 188 yards through five games. Last Saturday, he corralled 10 catches for 76 yards in Clemson's loss to Miami.
It should also be noted that Brown punched in a 34-yard rushing touchdown in Week 3 against North Carolina.
Brown is third on the team in catches, but not by far. Moore and Wesco have 25 receptions apiece, and it's clear that Brown is every bit as involved in the offense.
Freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds has seemed to develop a terrific connection with Brown, one that Cade Klubnik never really had.
It's abundantly clear that Brown has been Clemson's comeback player of the year thus far, and he has shown no signs of slowing down.
If anything, in fact, the senior receiver has gained steam.
Is Brown an NFL talent? That's debatable. It's clear that Moore and Wesco will be in the pros next year. They are both potential early-round talents.
Brown is different. At 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, he doesn't have the desired NFL size of Moore or Wesco. He also doesn't possess blazing speed. He's a nice slot receiver, and perhaps he could carve out a role on the next level as a result.
There's no doubt that Brown will need to continue producing — and then some — as the season progresses in order to get on an NFL radar, but with the direction he appears to be headed, it's a possibility.
For now, though, Brown is focused on getting Clemson back on track after a 41-13 loss to Miami. The Tigers have a bye this Saturday before facing Charleston Southern in Week 7.
