- Browns lose out on top WR target in 2026 NFL Free Agency
The first domino has fallen in the 2026 NFL Free Agency period in an area that the Cleveland Browns are going to be very active in over the next two months as they reset that wide receiver position.
The Indianapolis Colts wasted no time getting the most coveted receiver on the market. When NFL Free Agency opened at 12:00 pm EST on Monday, the Pierce news dropped along with the beginning of the period. The Colts signed him to a 4 year $116M deal that made him the highest-paid free agent receiver in NFL History.
Pierce was a very wanted asset across the league, and while he was likely out of the price range for the Browns , this move pushes the pedal down on teams going to acquire the top wide receivers. So, where does that leave the Browns?

One option that this does open for Cleveland is acquiring Pierce's teammate, Michael Pittman Jr. Pittman is currently on the final year of his three-year contract extension in Indianapolis, and a trade for Pittman would likely need to be accompanied by a contract extension for a team like Cleveland to invest in that player. He could be an option, but with the precedent that was set with the DJ Moore trade, the acquisition cost will be high for Pittman Jr., who is coming off of an 80 catch, 784 yard, seven touchdown season in Indy last year.
While rumors circulated that Cleveland will show interest in Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans , I wouldn't get overly excited about that as a Browns fan.
The market that Cleveland may be shopping in includes names such as Romeo Doubs from Green Bay, Rasheed Shahid from Seattle , Darnell Mooney from Atlanta , or Christian Kirk from Houston . Outside of Doubs, the rest of this group is probably in the second tier of receivers available this offseason.

Andrew Berry was very clear about the fact that the Browns are likely going to be one of the youngest rosters in the league, and with the state of their roster and outlook, I wouldn't expect a major swing in the wide receiver room. Hopefully, they look at a younger veteran who can make an impact while mentoring a young rookie who has the hopes of being the next great Cleveland Brown.
The first wide receiver is off the board, and the free agency period is officially underway in the 2026 offseason.
