Colts lose DT Neville Gallimore to Bears on two-year deal
INDIANAPOLIS — Veteran defensive tackle Neville Gallimore has agreed to terms on a two-year, $12 million deal with Chicago , a league source confirmed to IndyStar, in a move that cashes in his year in Indianapolis for big money.
Gallimore was an effective, low-cost signing for Indianapolis last season, producing 38 tackles, 3.5 sacks and three batted passes for just $1.27 million.
But the emergence of young defensive tackle Adetomiwa Adebawore , who produced four sacks and six quarterback hits last season, gave Indianapolis a backup for DeForest Buckner at the 3-technique tackle, a player the Colts believe will continue to develop.
"Tomi played really well inside for us," Colts general manager Chris Ballard said at the NFL scouting combine. "He's going to keep getting better."
Then the Colts acquired Packers defensive tackle Colby Wooden by trading middle linebacker Zaire Franklin to Green Bay at the end of last week.
Wooden’s acquisition essentially filled Gallimore’s spot on the roster. Four defensive tackles played more than 400 snaps for the Colts last season, and with Buckner and nose tackle Grover Stewart already expected back, Indianapolis can now turn its attention to its overhaul at defensive end.
