- Colts sign former Sycamore Johnathan Edwards to practice squad
Former Indiana State Sycamore standout Johnathan Edwards will remain a Colt.
Indianapolis signed the second-year cornerback to the practice squad on Tuesday. Likewise, the NFL club released cornerback Robert Carter Jr. from its practice squad.
Edwards, a 6-1, 201-pounder, spent Week 1 on the team's active roster but did not play.
As a rookie in 2025, he made five starts and played in 14 games, registering 24 tackles, 18 of those solo. He also had three passes defensed and two special teams stops.
Edwards was originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2025. As a Sycamore, he played from 2021 through 2023, and then transferred to Tulane. In total, Edwards appeared in 45 career games collegiately and recorded 124 tackles (86 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, 22 passes defensed and one forced fumble.
Carter Jr., who stands 5-10 and 175 pounds, was signed to Indianapolis' practice squad on Aug. 31 as a Canadian Football League veteran. He played in 18 regular-season CFL games with the BC Lions in 2025.
