Justin Herbert
's rough start has somehow spawned a side quest in which two former NFL defenders are now calling each other fat over Madison Beer. The internet has taken stranger detours, but not many.
What began with T.J. Ward
questioning Herbert's relationship with his fiancée quickly became a back-and-forth with Breiden Fehoko
, Herbert's former Los Angeles Chargers
teammate. By the time the dust settled, the football part of the conversation was barely hanging on.

T.J. Ward and Breiden Fehoko Take Herbert Debate Personal
The whole thing traces back to Ward's warning about Herbert and Beer. Ward suggested the relationship was taking time away from Herbert's craft and predicted Beer could leave if the quarterback's success and celebrity faded. Fehoko objected to dragging Herbert's family into a football discussion.
Ward went well beyond blaming Herbert's mechanics or the Chargers' offense. He said Beer was "using" Herbert and would be "out of there" if Herbert stopped receiving the same attention. Herbert, meanwhile, has publicly discussed the respect he has developed for Beer's career
after watching the work that goes into her performances.
That is where Fehoko entered the picture.

Ward's response was not exactly an attempt to lower the temperature. Ward replied
, "Come see me then Fat boy! I say what I wanna say."
Fehoko fired back, too. One response
included the line from the headline, "I ain't (Emmanuel) Acho," as the disagreement shifted from criticism of Ward's comments on "Speakeasy" into something much more personal.
Ward was still not interested in finding the brake pedal. Ward answered
, "We gone see bout all that. Fat boy!"
At that point, Herbert and Beer had become background characters in an argument that was supposedly about them.

A Football Take Somehow Became a Former-Player Beef
Fehoko has never been shy about defending Herbert. He spent three seasons with the Chargers during Herbert's early NFL career and has remained outspoken about the organization since leaving Los Angeles
.
Ward, meanwhile, spent eight seasons in the league and won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos

Herbert and Beer announced their engagement in July after going public with their relationship during the 2025 season. The Chargers' opening 2026 record of 0-2 gave sports television plenty of actual football material to work with, yet Ward's comments steered the conversation in a completely different direction.

Fehoko's point was straightforward: criticize the quarterback if you want, but leave his fiancée out of it. Ward's answer was just as clear. He is going to say what he wants.
That philosophical disagreement lasted about five minutes before "Fat boy" entered the chat.
Herbert already has enough to worry about on a winless team without becoming the unwilling main character in a retired-player beef. Apparently, Ward and Fehoko have moved on to a different matchup entirely.
