With wide receiver Terry McLaurin out for the season, it is even more important for Washington Commanders rookie wide receiver Antonio Williams to keep building chemistry with quarterback Jayden Daniels.
"I think every week, it's getting better. But, that comes with time," Williams said. "Every time the ball comes my way, I want to make sure I'm in the right spot. Trust is earned. I'm just trying to earn that."
One fun aspect about having Daniels as a quarterback is his escapability in the pocket. He frequently makes plays out of nothing, making the scramble drill incredibly important for Williams to work on, especially since that is not something he did as much in college, since his quarterback was more of a traditional pocket passer. Williams said he lights up during scramble drills because of how well Daniels is able to execute it.
"You light up. The ball finds energy. So, just working to get open," Williams said. "A lot of big plays happen on scrambles and when you got a quarterback like him … that scramble drill is really important to just get open and [have] energy so the ball [finds] you."
In Washington's most recent game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Williams had the most targets of anyone on the team with seven. He also had the most receptions five catches for 54 yards. The Commanders will be looking to build on their win with a victory against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
