- Commanders defender guarantees win over Eagles on Sunday night
The Philadelphia Eagles have lost five straight and are searching for answers heading into Sunday's matchup with the Washington Commanders , but one Washington defender has already added bulletin-board material to the NFC East rivalry.
Commanders cornerback Amik Robertson guaranteed a victory over Philadelphia during a conversation with 7News DC sports anchor Scott Abraham following Wednesday's practice, making a bold prediction ahead of a game with significant implications for both struggling teams.
"We definitely need to win this game and we will," Robertson told Abraham.
When Abraham asked whether his statement sounded like a guarantee, Robertson didn't back down.
"It has to be," Robertson responded.
The comments immediately added intrigue to a Sunday Night Football matchup featuring two teams struggling to remain competitive in the NFC East. Philadelphia enters Week 8 at 2-5 after Monday night's 38-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, extending its losing streak to five. Washington, meanwhile, is 1-4-1 and coming off its bye week, and both teams are looking for a win to salvage their seasons.
Robertson's confidence is particularly notable because the Eagles defeated Washington 24-22 in the season opener at Lincoln Financial Field. Philadelphia survived a late comeback attempt after the Commanders failed on a potential game-winning two-point conversion, giving Nick Sirianni's team its first victory of the season.

Since that meeting, however, the Eagles have experienced a significant decline. Philadelphia has struggled with injuries, inconsistent offensive production and defensive breakdowns, allowing opponents to take advantage of a team that has failed to maintain its early-season momentum.
Washington has experienced its own problems, but Robertson believes the Commanders can correct the mistakes that contributed to their disappointing start. The veteran cornerback emphasized the need for preparation, execution, and fewer repeated errors, saying Washington must be more disciplined to turn its season around.
Robertson has been one of the Commanders' more productive defensive players through six games, recording 40 tackles, eight passes defended and a forced fumble. His eight passes defended lead the team, while his tackle total ranks among Washington's highest. Yahoo Sports
Those contributions have made Robertson a key part of a secondary that will face Philadelphia's receiving corps Sunday night.

The Eagles have relied heavily on rookie Makai Lemon during their recent injury struggles, while DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks have dealt with injuries. Tanner McKee has taken over at quarterback after Jalen Hurts' season-ending absence, adding challenges for an offense that ranks near the bottom of the NFL in scoring and total yards.
Robertson's comments could further motivate Philadelphia, especially after a frustrating performance against Dallas in which the Eagles allowed 38 points and struggled to contain the Cowboys' rushing attack.
Still, the Eagles have more pressing concerns than responding to a prediction from an opposing defensive back.
Philadelphia needs to establish offensive consistency, improve defensive execution, and eliminate the mistakes that have led to five straight losses. The Eagles also must overcome significant injuries at several positions, including running back and along their defensive front. Washington faces similar urgency. The Commanders are trying to avoid falling further behind in the NFC East, so Sunday's matchup is a key chance to regain momentum after their bye week.

The Eagles will have a chance to complete a season sweep of Washington, while the Commanders seek to avenge their Week 1 defeat and build confidence heading into the second half of the season.
Robertson has already said he believes Washington will come away with the win.
Now the Commanders must back up those words on the field, while the Eagles have a chance to make Robertson regret giving them extra motivation ahead of Sunday's nationally televised matchup.
