Ahead of their first practice of training camp, the Washington Commanders announced five roster moves Wednesday, and general manager Adam Peters provided updates on existing injuries.
Peters said punter Tress Way and linebacker Kain Medrano will miss some time. "Way is dealing with a pectoral issue, and Medrano suffered a hamstring injury during offseason training," Peters said. "It's not expected to keep [Way] out for an extended period of time though ... Same thing with Medrano, he should be back shortly."

Peters provided an update on cornerback Trey Amos, who was placed on the PUP list to start training camp . "He's been outstanding in his rehab this offseason. With [Amos], just had a little soft tissue soreness in the offseason, so we wanted to just take it slow. He's doing really well, should be back soon," Peters said. Going into his second season, Amos was drafted in the second round and is expected to be a strong playmaker in the secondary.
Washington also announced five roster moves
Cornerback Fred Davis II was activated off the active/non-football illness list, wide receiver River Cracraft and punter Matt Haack were both signed, and linebacker Andre Carter and tight end Anthony Firkser were both released.

Placed in a deep competition for a roster spot in the cornerback room, Davis comes to Washington as an undrafted free agent who played at Clemson, Jacksonville State and Northwestern during his college career. Davis brings "good length and the ability to match some of the taller receivers down the field," head coach Dan Quinn said at rookie minicamp in June.
Cracraft rejoins Commanders after brieft stint in 2025
Appearing in two games for Washington in 2025, Cracraft did not record any targets or catches during his brief stint. For Cracraft to make the roster, he'll have to compete against the likes of Antonio Williams, who wildly impressed coaches and scouts during the offseason, and returners like Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane, who look to solidify their roles on offense and special teams .

Going into his 10th season in the NFL , Matt Haack joins the Commanders after appearing in seven games for the Cardinals in 2025. Arizona was Haack's sixth NFL team, as he has struggled to find a consistent home in the league. Tress Way is a favorite among Commanders fans , and many would be shocked to find his role in jeopardy. Having not missed a single game in his 12-year career, all 196 games in Washington, Peters made clear in his news conference that it's nothing serious and he's "not too worried."
