The Washington Commanders are signing former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Trent Scott to their practice squad just one day after releasing him as part of their final roster cuts, the team announced .
Scott, 32, served as the Steelers' backup swing tackle for the 2022 season. Since then, he's made a nice career with the Commanders in a similar role.
He has played in 35 games and made six starts over the last three seasons, including three starts in 2025 as a sixth offensive lineman. In 2024, he started one game at right tackle.
However, the Commanders made a change at left tackle this offseason, trading for veteran Laremy Tunsil . Last year's first-round pick, John Conerly, is also expected to start at right tackle once again, which means Scott's role is unlikely to change in 2026, and he will now have to be promoted on game days.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Scott did not get a lot of action in 2022 in Pittsburgh, thanks to the extreme levels of durability exhibited by the Steelers starting offensive linemen.
Scott played in just 31 snaps of offense last season. Thirty of those 31 came as an eligible extra lineman, and only one came at right tackle.
Originally an undrafted free agent out of Grambling State, Scott spent his first two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018-19. He then went to the Carolina Panthers , where he started nine games over two seasons while working with former Steelers offensive line coach Pat Meyer.
