- Commanders' Tyler Owens talks about going viral ... Again
Washington Commanders ' safety Tyler Owens is in his third season in the NFL. He went undrafted in 2024, but the Commanders signed him after the draft, and he has worn burgundy and gold ever since.
At the 2024 NFL Combine, Owens had a viral moment when he said he doesn't believe in space, that we are in a dome, and hinted that there could be some truth to the flat Earth theory.

On Sunday, Owens went viral again after a particularly intense special teams play. The Commanders punted the ball, and Owens burst downfield, breaking through two Eagles defenders who were hanging on his jersey and tackling the return man. His effort led Good Morning Football's Kyle Brandt to hand the Angry Runs scepter to a safety. Earlier this week, Owens talked about going viral with Marshall Kramsky.
First, Owens walks us through the play itself, saying how he was trying to get the refs' attention because the Eagles' jammers were holding him. If you watch the video, you can clearly see both Eagles defenders grab Owens' jersey and not let go. So, he dragged them. Then, he was asked what it was like to go viral again.
"I mean, it's cool, you know," Owens said. "It's good to get some recognition around here, but it ain't nothing, bro. We still got work to do."

Next, they discussed the edits. People across the league created various edits of his run, with different characters taking the place of the safety. So which one was his favorite? The Hulk. Owens said Iron Man is his favorite, but if he were an Avenger, he would probably be the Hulk or Thanos, and he'd bring 'villain energy.'
What's it like being in the spotlight, though? "I don't really let it get to me," Owens says. "They gonna love you for one reason and they gonna hate you for the next. So I don't really ride the wave like that much." He also said he hopes to keep delivering dominant performances so the hate doesn't come.
Of course, they had to talk about his comments on space from the combine. A NASA location is about 30 minutes from the Commanders, so Kramsky asked about his stance.
"NASA fake," Owens replied, saying he stands by what he said in 2024.

Owens clearly isn't afraid of the spotlight, and he definitely has some thick skin to let any negativity roll off his back. Undrafted or not, he's proven he is a valuable part of the Commanders' special teams unit.
