Commanders receiver Stefon Diggs (hamstring) has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the New York Giants, head coach Dan Quinn said in his Friday press conference . That's a big blow, considering Diggs has been Washington's leading receiver to this point.
Fingers are crossed for better news on Terry McLaurin , who was able to practice on Friday and for the first time this week. Quinn said he looked good in the workout.
The Commanders formally listed McLaurin as questionable Friday afternoon on the team's official injury report. The veteran suffered a hamstring injury in the last practice before Washington played the Colts in London, which kept him from playing that Week 4 game .
The Commanders also ruled safety Nick Cross (illness) out after not receiving a medical clearance to play. Adding to that trouble, safeties Percy Butler (hamstring) and Tyler Owens (hamstring) out of this game. Down three active safeties, Washington must elevate one to get through the game — they just added Darren Hall to the practice squad — where Quan Martin and Jeremy Reaves will play a ton.
Defensive end Charles Omenihu (groin/ankle) is also out, which is a big blow to the defensive front. He has been integral to some generally solid run defense.
Quarterback Marcus Mariota was ruled out earlier, so that was no shock.
Quinn delivered some good (yet expected) news for the Commanders, saying that quarterback Jayden Daniels (elbow), right guard Sam Cosmi (concussion) and running back Rachaad White (shoulder) will play against the Giants in a crucial Week 5 matchup.
The Commanders opened 21-day practice windows for cornerback Trey Amos, defensive lineman Deatrich Wise and running back Jeremy McNichols and designated them questionable — that's fairly common — but would have to add them to the active roster before playing.
