Connor Wong nearly ended his home run drought on Saturday in the Boston Red Sox 's 9-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians.

Wong appeared to have hit his first home run in a year-and-a-half to give the Red Sox a 3-1 lead. He was able to round the bases and celebrate in the dugout, but replay review revealed it hit off the yellow padding.
"[The explanation] was that it hit on the top of the yellow pad," interim manager Chad Tracy said postgame on Saturday. "Tough because I know he hasn't had one in a while."
Wong, meanwhile, felt like after watching the replay it still was a home run.
"I still think it was a homer, I wish I could challenge it myself," Wong said. "It is what it is."

Although Wong was disappointed to have the home run taken away from him, he's just glad the Red Sox were able to get the win.
"It sucks that it was taken away, but we got the win, so it's fine," Wong said.
Wong has become the backup catcher for the Red Sox, as Tracy has revealed that Mickey Gasper will play more now.
With the lopsided win over the Guardians, the Red Sox improved to 24-33 on the season.
