Could the Bucs select a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may not have an immediate need at quarterback, but recent activity suggests it could still be a position worth watching as the 2026 NFL Draft approaches. According to Jordan Schultz, the Bucs hosted Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels for a Top 30 visit. While that doesn’t automatically signal draft intentions, it does indicate Tampa Bay is at least doing its homework on this year’s QB class.
With Baker Mayfield firmly in place as QB1, and there are talks of discussions surrounding a potential extension, the quarterback position isn’t viewed as a pressing need for Tampa Bay. That said, the NFL Draft isn’t always about filling immediate holes. Teams often use picks to strengthen depth, add developmental talent, or prepare for the future in a broader sense. Quarterback makes sense after Teddy Bridgewater was QB2 last season, and although he was a great mentor, the reality of him leading an offense was murky.
Bucs need a true QB2 for security.
The Daniels visit highlights the Buccaneers' due diligence and their focus on the big picture down the road.Adding a quarterback in the draft would give the Bucs a young, cost-controlled backup and a developmental player to work within the system. Daniels, in particular, fits the mold of a prospect who could be targeted outside the early rounds, someone with intriguing traits but not immediate starting expectations. While QB may not be an immediate need on paper, a top-30 visit indicates a level of genuine interest.
