(USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect)
The LSU Tigers football season is inching closer, now down to double digits on the countdown clock. Kickoff against the Clemson Tigers is now just 25 days away.
As we continue to look back at the history of the Bayou Bandits to celebrate and prepare heading into the first game, there is also the matter of getting to know the current-day players.

Here is a look at the past and present of No. 25 at LSU:
No. 25 - RB Rod Gainey Jr.
While the Tigers were able to bring back their top two running backs, they also completely rebuilt their depth behind them. Gainey will be one of the top backups on the chart.
He wasn't in the most productive environment before, as he led the Charlotte 49ers in rushing last season with 260 yards and a touchdown on 74 carries. It was one of the worst offenses in the country, but Gainey at least showed some potential.
Gainey probably won't see the field much this season, but he has three years eligibility remaining. A depth role in this offense will likely do better for his future than if he had stayed with the 49ers either way.

No. 25 - S Aiden Hall
Hall is a typical elite New Orleans athlete coming over with sky-high potential for the LSU secondary. He was a defensive weapon for Edna Karr in high school, where he earned a four-star rating as a recruit by pretty much everyone.
He was teammates with fellow Tigers star freshman Richard Anderson down on the defensive line. They led a dominant unit that cruised to back-to-back Louisiana state championships. A great sign with them coming from such a solidified winning culture before coming to Baton Rouge.
To have success at LSU, getting the best athletes in the state, not just the highest-ranked is important. Hall was an easy add, and should develop well.

Former Players Who Wore No. 25
QB YA Tittle (1944-1947)
Tittle was one of the first true stars for the Tigers' program, predating Billy Cannon's days by over a decade. He was a two-time All-SEC quarterback. He was actually also named MVP of the 1947 Cotton Bowl, which ended in a 0-0 tie due to weather. Tittle had gotten LSU into position to score a few times, but everything was hard in the red zone.
He went on to have a Pro Football Hall of Fame career in the NFL. Over 17 seasons, he wan an MVP, was a three-time All-Pro and made seven Pro Bowls.
