The LSU Tigers football season is inching closer, now down to double digits on the countdown clock. Kickoff against the Clemson Tigers is now just 15 days away.
As we continue to look back at the history of the Bayou Bandits to celebrate and prepare heading into the first game, there is also the matter of getting to know the current-day players.

Here is a look at the next two players to wear No. 8 at LSU:
No. 8 - QB Husan Longstreet
Not only is Longstreet a current backup , but he could be their next star quarterback. Being able to get a player of this caliber to transfer with the intention of sitting a year is not easy, which goes to show just how important he is to their plans.
Longstreet was a top-30 player and top-five quarterback coming out of high school in the 2025 class. That was the year that LSU went hard after Bryce Underwood , but were spurned. Now they do end up with a gem from that group.
The former USC Trojans' prized recruit only threw 15 passes as a true freshman, but he completed 13 of them with a touchdown to show for it. He hit the transfer portal hoping for a quick path to playing time, but he didn't find it. It worked out for the Tigers as they now get a chance to have their next quarterback sit behind their current one, which is getting harder to accomplish.

Longstreet has pretty much every tool a college coach could hope for a player to have.
No. 8 - CB Ja'Keem Jackson
Jackson transferred to the Tigers last season after starting his college career with the Florida Gators . He was a very highly-touted prospect out of high school and that helped him find the field in a backup role as a freshman, but his snap count has only dropped since.
LSU was able to keep him this offseason, but he still isn't likely a starter on the boundary. He'll have a much bigger role this season, though, as he is at least projected to be the first one off the bench for DJ Pickett or PJ Woodland.

The Tigers must be happy with the work he has done off the field to want to run it back despite him not playing much last year. While he would have preferred to be playing more, sitting and developing in the LSU cornerback room usually ends up helping players out .
