Coventry City finally had a Premier League home victory to celebrate, ending a 25-year wait with an emphatic 4-1 win over Newcastle United at the CBS Arena.

The hosts took control early when Lukas Hornicek brought down Sidiki Cherif in the box. Jack Rudoni converted the resulting penalty, giving Coventry their first home goal in the top flight since John Hartson scored against Sunderland in April 2001.

Newcastle struggled to turn possession into clear openings, with Bobby Thomas making a crucial intervention to deny Matias Fernandez-Pardo before the interval.

Frank Lampard 's side struck again just three minutes after the restart. Malick Thiaw 's headed clearance fell to Cherif, who took a touch before drilling a shot into the bottom corner for his side's second.

Sven Botman briefly revived Newcastle's hopes with a powerful effort from distance in the 70th minute.

However, Coventry restored their two-goal advantage when Ellis Simms pounced on a loose ball following a challenge by Joelinton .

There was still time for a fourth, as teenager Stephen Mfuni curled home after Jay Dasilva set him up late on.

The result sends Coventry up to 14th, level on points with Manchester United. Newcastle remain 11th after collecting eight points from their first six games.
