"Covered in my own blood" - Chris Bosh reveals terrifying near-death health scare
Chris Bosh played his final NBA minutes nearly nine years ago, which still feels surreal to many die-hard fans who vividly remember his title runs with the Miami Heat in the 2010s.
His career ended prematurely due to recurring blood clots, first appearing in his lungs in 2015 and later in his leg. Despite multiple comeback attempts, the condition made it medically unsafe for him to play, forcing him to retire while still in his prime after a Hall-of-Fame–caliber career.
Although he largely stayed out of basketball circles after retirement and led a quiet life, Bosh made headlines again last night for medical reasons. In a frightening post on social media, he explained what happened.
"So I woke up covered in my own blood. It was crazy. It was fast. It was instant," Bosh said while recording himself in his car. "There was no warning. I didn't have any time to prepare for it. I was getting ready to go on a date with my wife and the next thing you know, I was, I was on the ground.
"I won't get into specifics, but you can kind of see I'm still recovering [points to face]," Bosh added. "I'm not gonna try to hide that one in case I look different, but it was a scary thing and it came fast ... I'm lucky I came back. It was just darkness, it wasn't anything else. I went to the darkness, I came back. I have no recollection. I have no memory other than coming back here. So, don't wait."
Little is known about his ongoing health
During the recording, Bosh appeared calm but showed visible signs of a difficult night, including dark circles under his eyes. It's a frightening story for the two-time NBA champion, and at this time, little is known about his ongoing health.
This is clearly a concerning situation for him and his family, who have been living quietly since his early retirement at age 33. It appears something in his body is causing further issues, though no conclusions can be drawn until more information emerges.
The positive takeaway is that the 11-time NBA All-Star is aware of what happened, has a clear mindset moving forward, and is focused on recovery despite having no memory of the collapse.
"It made me really have a different outlook on life and how things go, what we do for ourselves, what we do for our family, how we live our lives. And no matter what it is, make sure you don't wait." Bosh stressed. "That's the thing that I get from this. Don't wait to take action, because it could come fast, it could come quick. I'm lucky to be alive and I feel great about that. And now I'm thinking about how I live my day-to-day life. That's really it, but don't wait.
"Don't wait to take action. You might be wanting to get a promotion, you might want to try out for the team, you might want to go on that vacation." Bosh added. "It might be so many different things that people want to do, that we want to do that we never do. So that's what I get from all this. Don't wait for it. You might want to start a business, don't wait. Just do it. You might hit the deck, I don't know."
Bosh left an incredible mark during his playing days
It's a sad fate for a player who was part of the legendary 2003 draft class alongside LeBron James and Dwyane Wade , with whom he created some of the most memorable chapters of his career in the Miami uniform.
Bosh also left a lasting impact on the Toronto Raptors . Even 15 years after leaving the team, he remains their all-time leader in rebounds and blocks. From a fan perspective, he is undoubtedly one of the best power forwards of his era and a player whose career left an indelible mark.
While his achievements and career could fill an entire feature, right now the most important thing is that the 41-year-old is alive and recovering.
