The Dallas Cowboys made some popular picks during the 2026 NFL Draft. Dallas received universal praise for selecting Caleb Downs in the first round. But it is the team's heavy interest in one draft prospect that could have one Cowboys veteran worried ahead of the 2026 season.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler shared some post-draft intel from various league sources in his latest article. His notes on the Cowboys included an ominous warning for Pickens.
"The team was high on Arizona State receiver Jordyn Tyson," Fowler wrote. "Did the threat of taking a receiver high play a role in George Pickens agreeing to sign his franchise tag hours before the draft? Hard to know for certain, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities. This feels far from over."
Pickens finally signed his franchise tag on April 29th , calming fears about a potential standoff. Previous reports claimed that Pickens would sign his franchise tag before the draft, but it took nearly a week after that deadline to put pen to paper.
There still seems to be plenty of tension surrounding Pickens' contract situation despite the franchise tag locking him up through 2026.
The Cowboys and Pickens discussed a contract extension earlier this offseason, with Pickens seeking a massive payday following his breakout 2025 campaign. Pickens posted career bests in every category last season, logging 93 receptions for 1,429 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
The fact that Dallas had strong interest does not necessarily mean that Pickens is in danger. However, it does suggest that the Cowboys are exploring their options at the wide receiver position.
Cowboys fans should keep their eyes on this situation throughout the summer.
