The Philadelphia Phillies have been playing some improved baseball of late, now just two games behind the Atlanta Braves for first place in the NL East division. The Phillies will have several players in the All-Star game this year at home in Philadelphia, notably not including pitcher Zack Wheeler , although pitcher Cristopher Sanchez is among them.
On Sunday afternoon, the Phillies got some exciting news about Sanchez leading up to the big event.
"Breaking: Phillies superstar pitcher Cristopher Sanchez will be the National League starting pitcher for Tuesday's All-Star Game in Philadelphia," reported Jon Heyman of the New York Post on X, formerly Twitter.

Sanchez has indeed been having an elite season for the Phillies this year, holding down the fort in some of the team's injury absences and helping them surge back up the standings over the last couple of months following a brutal start to the campaign. While Phillies fans are still irate about Wheeler and the fact that he was not selected for the game, having Sanchez start in front of the home fans at Citizens Bank Park will certainly be a solid consolation prize for those in attendance.
The MLB All-Star game is slated to get underway on Tuesday night, and while it's unlikely that Sanchez will throw too many pitches, it will still be a special moment when he takes the mound for the first time.
In the meantime, the Phillies will hit the field for the final time before the All-Star break on Sunday afternoon against the Detroit Tigers on the road.
