Crowned Named KTOB Broodmare Of The Year

Crowned, dam of 2025 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont (G1) winner Sovereignty, was named the 2025 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year at the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association and Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders awards presentations on Friday in Lexington.

Sovereignty, the Eclipse Award winner as 2025 Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old mare, was named the 2025 Champion Kentucky-Bred Horse of the Year in addition to Champion Kentucky-Bred Three-Year-Old Male for his campaign that also included victories in the Travers (G1) and Jim Dandy (G2) at Saratoga and Fountain of Youth (G2) at Gulfstream Park prior to his classic wins at Churchill Downs and Belmont Park. The colt's owner-breeder, Godolphin, was crowned KTDF Owner and Breeder of the Year, with the former being the fifth consecutive year of being awarded the title. In addition, Godolphin was presented with the P.A.B. Widener Award for the sixth consecutive year.

Three merit awards will be presented to individuals for their contributions to the Kentucky Thoroughbred Industry.

-- William T. Young Humanitarian Award distinguishes a person or organization in the thoroughbred industry “who recognizes and promotes the human endeavor:” B. WAYNE HUGHES

Also to receive awards are the top Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund (KTDF) money earners in 2025 in five separate categories.

KTDF Sire of the Year: NOT THIS TIME (Taylor Made Farm)
KTDF Earner of the Year: TROUBLESHOOTING (Donamire Farm)

Recipients of the 2025 KTOB Kentucky-Bred Champion awards were voted on by the full membership of KTA/KTOB while the KTDF category leaders were tabulated using purse money won at KY racetracks in 2025. KTOB merit award recipients were voted on by the KTA/KTOB Board of Directors.

In existence since 1967 and 1983, respectively, the KTOB and KTA direct their efforts toward promoting and protecting the Thoroughbred industry by maintaining the highest levels of racing, breeding and training standards in the Commonwealth.
