With the NFL season well underway, it appears the broadcasting world could see a couple of shakeups.
With Tony Romo's exit from CBS, attention is also turning to other player-turned analysts, including Greg Olsen's situation at Fox, which is expected to create a ripple effect in sports broadcasting.

Greg Olsen Exit Discussion Sparks Fox Hypothetical Involving Drew Brees and Dan Orlovsky
Olsen is under contract with Fox through the 2026 season, with provisions that could allow him to leave for a No. 1 job elsewhere. That could open the door for him to pursue a No. 1 analyst opportunity elsewhere, especially if a prominent network comes calling.
Olsen previously held Fox's No. 1 analyst position for two seasons, establishing himself as one of the elite former players in the broadcasting business. However, his role changed after Fox made the massive decision to sign Tom Brady to a mammoth 10-year, $375 million contract.
Brady's arrival pushed Olsen down to the network's No. 2 broadcast team. However, Fox Sports President and Executive Producer Brad Zager continues to view Olsen as a premier broadcasting talent.

Zager has made it clear that he would be happy for Olsen if he eventually lands a No. 1 analyst role, even though that outcome would mean losing an important member of Fox's NFL lineup.
That situation has already fueled discussion about how Fox could restructure its broadcast teams if Olsen ultimately departs. Front Office Sports media and entertainment reporter Ryan Glasspiegel has offered one interesting prediction for how the network could respond.

"Glass Crystal Ball: Greg Olsen leaves Fox for a top analyst spot in the offseason. Drew Brees promoted to the No. 2 team. Fox tries to hire Dan Orlovsky for No. 3 + FS1," Glasspiegel wrote,
pondering a turn of events that would raise a few eyebrows.
Brees would be an obvious internal candidate for promotion, as he is already a full-time NFL analyst for Fox. A move up the broadcasting hierarchy would also make sense given Brees' experience across multiple networks.

Following his playing career, Brees also spent the 2021 season with NBC Sports, where he worked as a color analyst for Notre Dame football broadcasts.
Adding Orlovsky, meanwhile, would give Fox another recognized name with a strong reputation as an analyst. Since transitioning into the media space, Orlovsky has built a much larger profile, becoming a regular presence across ESPN's football programming.
However, Fox attempting to lure Orlovsky away from ESPN would be an interesting discussion, as he has been associated with ESPN since 2018. He also strengthened that relationship by signing a multi-year contract extension with the network last year.
