As Crystal Palace continue their search for defensive depth, a new name has emerged as a potential target for the Eagles. Maxence Lacroix's move to Chelsea is as good as completed, which means Palace not only need to bring in depth but also starting quality.
Per a report from Sami Mokbel and Alex Howell (BBC) , Stade Brestois defender Raphaël Le Guen is a player that the club are interested in, and an exclusive from Palace Report on Friday night confirmed that the defender had completed a medical.

Following that news, Palace fans woke up to confirmation from Fabrizio Romano that a deal has been completed on the player's side, with Le Guen "convinced by the Palace project."
In what's been a slight rollercoaster of different reports, Bobby Manzi then reported this morning that whilst an agreement has been made between club and player, Palace are yet to decide on whether or not they want to progress for him and a medical has not even been completed.
So who is Le Guen, and how could he fit into Palace's system and model?
Who is Raphaël Le Guen?
A 19-year-old French central defender, Le Guen has only played six times for Stade Brestois after graduating from their academy.

He made 12 appearances for Stade Brestois Deux, before making his first team debut on August 29th 2025, a substitute appearance at the age of just 18 years and three days old.
His next appearance came in March, and then he was finally entrusted with a run of starts for the first team at the back end of last season.
His lack of experience and exposure to elite level football means that this is likely a signing for depth alone, looking towards the future and not a direct replacement for Maxence Lacroix.
Jaydee Canvot joined Palace in similar circumstances, with little first team contribution, so there can and should be confidence from the fanbase.

The reaction from the Brest fans on social media also indicates the level of talent that Palace are acquiring here.

At 6"6, Le Guen's standout attribute is his physicality. He's ridiculously dominant in the air as a result, and is also excellent at defending crosses and long balls.
He spent his early years playing as a striker but dropped deeper as he grew, and his time at the top end of the pitch shows in his technical ability. He's only played in central defence for five years, and so has a huge amount of development still to come, but the natural talent is clear to see. He's also already captained Brest's reserve side, a sign of his leadership at such a young age.

His versatility is also another bonus, with the ability to operate either in central defense, at right back or even in central midfield.
His standout performance came against Paris Saint Germain, a 1-0 defeat for Brest. Le Guen produced a truly mindblowing 21 defensive contributions, winning ¾ aerial duels and making a staggering 16 clearances.
Despite the pressure of facing the likes of Bradley Barcola, Le Guen produced a 91% pass accuracy and was not dribbled past a single time. That performance alone platformed him to the world, and it seems that Palace have been willing to jump the gun.

There are few highlights out there mainly due to his lack of gametime, but you can watch his performance against PSG here . The early signs are very promising, and if Le Guen can come into Palace with no pressure and be eased in, he could become a really shrewd signing.
His official price tag is yet to be reported, but considering his lack of senior minutes and relatively unknown potential, a fee under £5m with a sell-on clause would make sense.
